Mea Dols De Jong
One of our lumineers is the talented 29-years-old actress and filmmaker Mea de jong. Her documentary ‘If Mama ain’t Happy, Nobody’s Happy’ was shown during the Amsterdam Student Festival (ASF) in 2015. The documentary about her mother and her view on men and family appealed not only to the Dutch audience, Mea also received international critical acclaim for her film which has won over 15 international awards so far. Recently it has also won Slamdance Festival, which made the film eligible for the Oscars 2017!
Halal, an Amsterdam based film production company, states about Mea: “[Her] skills and crafts center around observing and exposing interhuman relations down to their finest detail. Able to combine psychology with refined atmospheric aesthetics, Mea’s work appears subtle, yet is provocative at the same time. Her films come from an authenticity that is truly powerful, and resonate with a large audience.”
In early 2016 Mea was named one of the “Top 10 Europeans to Watch” by Variety. The promising filmmaker is definitely one to watch very closely!
